Some really good tips but I agree that 'eat meat' (or don't care/don't monitor) goes a little bit against 'fitness', even if you are either building muscle or losing weight I think its important to keep an eye on amounts.

Nevertheless, a very interesting post , I love your blog so much I'm going through your archives and finding some really good advice!

I don't agree with the statement 'eat meat', nor do I think its necessary to being fit. Its rather ironic that the name of this website is 'Zen to Fitness', yet you advocate consuming meat. Zen Buddhists are Mahayana and tend to look favorably upon a vegetarian diet.

The lowest level of cardio is running. Too many mistake ALL cardio as some form of jogging. You get more for your buck doing an honest form of Tabata. And it doesn't have to be sprinting (which is a good one). Carrying a heavy load (A Farmer's walk or even a couple of suitcaes)pumps the heart rate into a good Oxygen Debt burn long after the exercise is done.

@ Dan. Thanks for the comment. I really enjoyed writing the post and feel a lot of people can benefit from giving it a read, it reminds us things are sometimes more simple than we like to make out...... I find what you wrote in your comment about when you were in the best shape very inspiring and probably the case for most.

Hey Chris,

I really enjoyed this post, as I have noticed similar habits amongst my fit friends/relatives. In fact, it's funny that when I look back to when I was in the best shape, I did not have a clue about nutrition, ate when hungry, did a good amount of cardio, and used bw exercises and a pair of 30 lb dumbells as my weight routine. Sometimes too much information is bad, which is why I enjoy the "primal" model of fitness. Simple and sound principles to be in great shape!
