@ Tom. You make a valid point and If thats the way you like things keep the rolling that way. Always do what you find suits you best but don't be hesitant to experiment with randomness in your training. I also add structure to my workouts but usually throw in something I feel like doing at the time. For instance yesterday I ended up not training due to simply having a busy day. Somehow I had a burst of energy and had 20-30 minutes free in the late afternoon so I decided to go for some sprint/pushup combo's and a short bike ride. It was perfect and took me around 30 mins in total and got in a great workout when I couldn't get to the gym.

I really appreciate all the comments.....Thanks

I do agree with the essence of your post Chris. However, I think some people do need a routine which has elements of planning and structure. Otherwise they get complacent?

For example, I aim to hit the gym on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday (I find the gym is the best place for me to train personally - doing it at home is just too distracting). If I miss a day or end up training on a Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday I don't obsess over it. I know I'm not always going to be free on my first choice training days and I will adapt. However, I do try and keep some structure to my workouts. Otherwise I know I would just put it off.

Simplicity, randomness, and don't stress! Great points. We share similiar outlooks on fitness. I have found that kind of outlook really helped me to make gains I never thought were possible.

Right on, Chris.

I only plan so much as it will save me time in the gym. Many times, though, those plans go completely out the window -- and that's no problem at all. In fact, I embrace those times as being unexpected challenges.
